What is Diaper Rash?

Diaper rash is a common skin irritation of early childhood. When skin remains wet for too long, it begins to break down. And when the skin is rubbed, it also damages more easily. Moisture from a diaper can harm your baby’s skin and make it more prone to chafing. When this happens a diaper rash may develop.

Other causes of diaper rash:

  • Introduction of a new food (either through mom who is breastfeeding, or baby who is being fed new foods)
  • A new brand of disposable diaper, wipes, or a laundry detergent, bleach, or fabric softener can also irritate your baby’s bottom
  • Use of antibiotics by baby or nursing mother

How common is it?

More than half of babies ages 4-15 months suffer from diaper rash at least once. It can occur anytime your child wears diapers, but is more common in babies during their first 15 months.

Diaper rash is upsetting to mom and uncomfortable for baby. But the good news is, most diaper rashes can be treated with simple at-home remedies, like Caldesene® Protecting Powder.
